He is really something to look at if your in the market for a roping horse, he heads and heels. She is getting desperate (due to divorce) and has reduced his price to $3500.00. He is good for trail riding and ranch work too! Super all around horse. AQHA, Driftwood and Blue Valentine!! Great bloodlines!

Dec 7th Wheat pasture cattle
Finally it officially feels like winter is setting in! Wheat pasture cattle are being turned out by the dozens! Long johns are brought out of hiding and my heater is running constantly! The horses are frisky but miserable. The cats are permanently puffed and the dogs are making beds in the hay. Chores aren't fun anymore!!

Boxers make great ranch dogs!
Believe it or not a Boxer does make a good ranch dog! Here at the Horseshoe Ranch we have a couple of typical cow dogs "Dally and Lacy" that live 24/7 at the ranch and we have Boxers "Yohann" and our newest little member "Abagail" at the house. The boxers come with us to do chores during the day and work very well at the ranch. They can even help push cattle! They are really good with our daily customers with their wiggle butz greetings. The only thing I have found that is a little hard on the Boxer at the ranch is the cold weather. As December approaches, we are finally seeing some cold Oklahoma winter weather. Both our Boxers hate the cold and don't want any part of helping with chores on frosty days! Boxers don't mind wearing a winter parka but even with the help of a coat, they don't want any part of the frigid air. So I guess they are fair weather ranch dogs! Leaving the daily winter chores to the real cow dogs, while they lay by the fire, eating home baked cookies.

Today is another Chapter......
Well as fall has set in, winter has began to threaten us. Cool North Oklahoma winds are changing to cold North winds. Outside work has slowed as it always does. The ranch business will take its turn to indoors. eBay is a Godsend, but with a jagged economy this year may be harder than those of the past. Well enough of all that......Coins lots of Coins I'm listing. My father past several years ago and left my Sister and I a large coin collection. We have decided to finally part with it. We both do not collect coins and they are just sitting there in the attic collecting dust! If your a collector or just in need of a neat old coin, check out our eBay store "Western Flair Past and Present" We will be listing coins daily for quite a while!

What is with people today? David just had a lady stop him at Wal Mart and snap "why are you wearing those spurs" he replied to move my horse around. She Replied "you mean kick and gouge him" He said "NO" They make our communication clearer, I touch him lightly to move him left or right, if I have spurs, there should be NO reason to kick or gouge him" She mumbled off in discuss. If she only knew the life of good cowboys and the spurs they have worn for 100s of years. I am sure they fall into evil hands but its not the spurs its the mind of the handler. Knowledge is priceless!

101 For New Roping Producers
Putting on your first roping can be quite a chore, if you are a roper you mainly only see whats on the outside and usually think there can't be much to it!
I know, I was that roper....
When my family full of ropers were breaking the bank, I decided to put a few on myself to defray some cost. I figured we already have an arena, cattle and plenty of parking. Why not? While it is a good idea and really fun, it sure may not defray any cost if not done properly. In fact if not careful you'll break the bank quicker than you can imagine.
No need to scare you though! We have lost our butts on a few here and there, but out of the 400+ jackpots we have put on we are still here alive and roping!
From the very moment I had the bright idea to produce my very own jackpot, I could find NO information on the subject anywhere. NO books, NO websites and surely no help from any other producer. Everyone was pretty closed mouth. Why I don't know?
I had questions like how much to pay out? I seen in the Dally Times where many ropings paid out 70% and some paid 80%. That works if your charging $50.00 bucks a loop and have 1000s of teams, it sure don't work if you charge $20.00 a loop and have 100 teams! TRUST ME! Unless you just want to produce a roping for fun!
